"Meinen Jesum laß &c. denn" (#254)

German text in the Gesangbuch:

1 Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht,

denn er ist allein mein Leben;

wer ihn hat, dem nichts gebricht,

er kann sich zufrieden geben;

er gerath in was für Noth,

wärs auch Satan, Sünd und Tod.

2 Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht,

weil kein bessrer Freund auf Erden,

denn er, Jesus, unser Licht,

springt in allerlei Beschwerden

mir getreulich an die Seit,

liebt mich bis in Ewigkeit.

3 Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht;

wenn mich alle Menschen hassen

und der Feinde Macht einbricht,

auch gedenket so zu fassen,

daß ich gleich soll untergehn,

bleibt mir seine Rettung stehn.

4 Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht;

wenn mich meine Sünden quälen,

wenn mein Herz und Satan spricht:

sie sind groß und nicht zu zählen,

spricht er:  sei getrost, mein Kind,

ich, ich tilge deine Sünd.

My prose translation:

1 I do not leave my Jesus

For He alone is my life;

For him who has Him, nothing is broken;

He can be content;

He turns out well in any distress,

Be it even Satan, sin, or death.

2 I do not leave my Jesus

Because no better friend on earth

Than He, Jesus, our Light,

Faithfully jumps to my side

In all sorts of problems

[And] loves me until into eternity.

3 I do not leave my Jesus;

When all men hate me

And the power of the enemies invades,

Even thought thus to seize [me]

So that I should perish immediately,

His salvation remains standing for me.

4 I do not leave my Jesus;

When my sins plague me,

When my heart and Satan say,

"They are great and not able to be counted,"

He says, "Be comforted, My child;

"I, I blot out your sin."

5 I do not leave my Jesus;

When light breaks for me

In the last movement of my weak eyes,

Then first, then He helps me to be victorious.

Yes, He does not let me come

Into the last judgement of the world.

6 I do not leave my Jesus

For He also will not leave me;

I believe this, not otherwise,

And He will never hate me;

Therefore I say:  "Him, my light,

"My Jesus, I will not leave."

That each verse starts with the line "I do not leave my Jesus" illustrates this constancy.

I shuffled a few elements in the fourth and fifth lines of the second verse and most of the fifth verse to get a smoother English translation.

As far as I can tell, this hymn isn't in The Lutheran Hymnal, Lutheran Worship, or The Lutheran Service Book.  According to the Gesangbuch, the text is sung to "its own tune."  Here's the arrangement from TLH:
