"Schaffe in mir, Gott, ein" (#209)

German text in the Gesangbuch:

1 Schaffe in mir, Gott, ein reines Herz,

und gib mir einen neuen gewissen Geist.

Verwirf mich nicht :,:

von deinem Angesicht :,:

und nimm deinen Heilgen Geist nicht von mir.

2 Tröste mich wieder mit deiner Hilfe,

und er, der freudige Geist, enthalte mich.

Wasche mich wohl :,:

von meiner Missethat :,:

und reinige mich von meiner Sünde.

Psalm 51, Vers 12-14 und 4.

My prose translation:

1 Create in me, God, a clean heart,

And give me a new, sure spirit.

Cast me not away :,:

From Your face :,:

And take not Your Holy Spirit from me.

2 Comfort me again with Your help,

And may He, the joyful Spirit, hold me.

Wash me well :,:

From my misdeeds :,:

And cleanse me from my sin.

Psalm 51, Verses 12-14, and 4.

There are arrangements of this text in Lutheran Worship and The Lutheran Service Book, both titled "Create in Me" (LW #5, LSB #956), but I'm not sure that these are the same piece that's in the Gesangbuch.  Each has only one verse, but the Gesangbuch version has two.

According to the Gesangbuch, the text is sung to "its own tune."
