"Also heilig ist der Tag" (#96)

This is the first hymn in a new setion:  "Oster-Lieder oder Lieder von der Auferstehung Jesu Christi"  "Easter Songs or Songs of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ"

German text in the Gesangbuch:
1 Also heilig ist der Tag,
daß ihn kein Mensch mit Lobe erfüllen mag.
Denn der heilige Gottessohn,
der die Höll überwand
und den leidigen Teufel darin band,
damit erlöst der Herr die Christenheit
und war Christ selber.
Kyrie eleison.

Aus dem 15th Jahrhundert.
My prose translation:
1 The day is so holy
That no man can fill it with praise.
For the holy Son of God,
Who overcame hell
And bound the wretched devil in it,
By this, the Lord redeems Christendom
And was Christ Himself.
Kyrie eleison.

From the 15th century.
"Also" ("so") in the first line is a conjunction, not an adverb, but I had to translate it as an adverb to get a closer sense of the meaning.  Rendering these lines as "The day is holy / That no man can fill it with praise" misleadingly gives a prohibitory sort of feeling.

I had to guess at where the line breaks are.

As far as I can tell, this hymn isn't in The Lutheran Hymnal, Lutheran Worship, or The Lutheran Service Book.  According to the Gesangbuch, the text is sung to "its own melody."
