I'm not too sure of my translation of the final couplet of each verse or the lines "God prizes His urge of love / When it foresees of the handwriting for me" ("Gott preist seine Liebestriebe, / wenn mir von der Handschrift ahnt") in the fourth verse.
The third verse seems to reference Psalm 22:6: "But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people."
Part of the fifth verse is based on Romans 8:38-39: "38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
As far as I can tell, this hymn isn't in The Lutheran Hymnal, Lutheran Worship, or The Lutheran Service Book. According to the Gesangbuch, the text is sung to the tune "Werde munter, mein Gem." Here's the TLH arrangement:
